I'm not sure that, under those conditions, I would have been able to think that clearly. I've met a black bear or two in the wild over my lifetime, but never under those circumstances. Everyone I've seen has been hightailing it the other way. The problem here in NC is that fact that the black bears can get so large. The largest one on record at over 900lbs came from SE NC. That’s quick thinking. I’m not sure that, under those conditions, I would have been able to think that clearly.
