***NEWS RELEASE***

GMS® Partners with Tex-Star Wildlife Services

WACO, Texas — Designers of the No. 1 Tool in Game Management — GMS® is proud to announce it has partnered with Tex-Star Wildlife Services to offer full-service wildlife consultant services to its customers. As part of the all-new service, Tex-Star will provide hands-on guidance and instruction for large and small hunting operations as well as breeder operations to optimize the wildlife and habitat potential of customers’ properties.

“Our GMS technology is a tremendous tool in successful game management, but we want to also make sure our customers have the benefit of experience and knowledge which can help them achieve the best results for their wildlife program,” says Mike Owens, co-owner of GMS. “A lot of property owners or ranch managers have an idea of what they want, but they need guidance on how to get from Point A to Point B. Tex-Star can give them the guidance they need.”

Through GMS, the Tex-Star wildlife consultant services include: micro- and macro-game management, livestock and habitat management, watering facilities, supplemental feeding, record keeping, budgets, census-keeping, predator control, food plot management, fence layout and construction, harvest recommendations, brush management, land acquisition and many more.

“Some ranch owners’ goals may be easy to achieve, while others may be unrealistic given the habitat or other factors,” says Joe Guidry, co-owner of Tex-Star Wildlife Services and a wildlife management professional with 15 years of experience. “Either way, we work closely with each landowner to ensure that all their wants and needs are addressed whether it be macro-managing for general wildlife populations or micro- managing for specific goals such as trophy whitetails.”

GMS is no stranger to wildlife management. The GMS software has been endorsed by some of the largest game ranches in the country, and is considered by most industry experts to be the most complete, yet ‘easy to use’ game management software on the market today. GMS helps hunting operations and land owners manage properties, whose focus is on quality deer and game management (including deer farmers/breeders), organize and maintain all of the pertinent information needed to manage a successful ranch. Innovative and comprehensive, the GMS program allows users to begin quality deer management, track all aspects of a hunting property, develop plans to help maximize herd health, quantify herd ratios, compositions and age structures, develop a wildlife management plan, schedule hunts, record information in the field via Pocket PC technology and much more.

“Efficiency in game management is the key to success,” adds Owens, “and — whether it’s with our GMS software or through 20-plus years of wildlife management experience — we want to help ranch owners reach their goals efficiently and cost-effectively.”

Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD), an often-fatal virus that causes high fever and severe internal bleeding, has been confirmed in captive deer herds in Franklin and Randolph counties.

Thanks to Rick for reporting the news out of North Dakota. A proposed ballot initiative would ban private hunting preserves throughout the state of North Dakota. Currently preserves allow hunters to come in, pay a good chunk of change, and then hunt in a fenced in area. Of course, there are people now crying out about unethical hunting practices and wish to shut this practice down.

The debate goes on. This is big news and as you can see is hitting the blogs online.

My only question to those reading is how ethical is it for the farmer to slaughter the cow out back behind the barn to sell to the market? Do we shut down all the meat factories? Maybe we should refocus a bit on what is hunting? and what is killing for meat?

Reminded by the Virginia Tech shootings we all ask ourselves more guns? less guns? Is it a matter of enforcing current laws? Amending old laws? The point of the matter is our 2nd Amendment rights should not be infringed upon. The NRA points us to an article today at wset.com where people believe allowing University staff and students to carry firearms is the way to safer campuses.

Again, I hear the outcries of the anti-gun advocates in the background. But could there have been some lives saved at Virginia Tech if students and Professors were allowed to defend themselves which is clearly spelled out in the U.S. Constitution?

Another thing that comes to mind is 9/11. If pilots and flight attendants were allowed to carry weapons on board could they have prevented the planes from hitting the Twin Towers and the Pentagon? Could lives have been saved using guns? Most agree that it would, as self defense is a God given right.

WOOSTER — A Smithville councilman admitted last month he illegally trapped squirrels and drowned them at the village park.

David E. Zimmerman, 66, of 150 W. Main St., pleaded guilty to seven wildlife violations filed in Wayne County Municipal Court by Ohio Wildlife Officer Eric Ucker. Zimmerman was ordered to pay fines and costs totaling $675.

This is hilarious not because squirrels suffered a horrible death but because this hits main stream media. Though I am NOT against drowning squirrels (tongue in cheek), what on Earth is this guy doing? I can hear the outcries of the animal rights activists in the distance.

So why did Zimmerman wish death upon the cute cuddly animals… (ugly rat with a bushy tail)?

Despite his guilty plea, Zimmerman, in a Friday voice mail message said, “I have serious concern as do other residents in our area about the integrity of the system and its staff, considering the couple squirrels and the damage they inflected on our property and other surrounding properties.

“In our immediate neighborhood, the squirrels have entered the attic areas (of businesses and residences) and chewed off wiring that have made immediate repairs necessary,” he continued.

OK first off I don’t really care. What’s the difference if you trap rats with cheese and snap their brittle necks when they come to take a bite? Nothing. What actually bothered me most was this next piece.

“Once the squirrels were dead, Mr. Zimmerman disposed of them in the stream,” according to Ucker’s report.

He could have at least put them in a trash bag, tied it off, and sent it straight to the local dump. Why in the water supply? Anyway, thought you all would get a chuckle out of this…

For those following the political race leading straight up the steps to the White House know Rudy Giuliani (R) is running for the Presidency of the United States in ’08. We should learn not only where our candidates stand today on the issues but where they lined up in the past. This video is a 2 minute clip back in 1995 where Giuliani speaks his mind not only on gun control but about the NRA.

I wonder if Giuliani knew then if he would be running for President now. Highly doubt it.

Well, I thought a welcome post is in order. I wasn’t going to do this originally but heck why not. Let me tell you a little bit about this new blog here at Skinny Moose Media. If you look around you can see a variety of links to several online news media sources. I have broken them out into regions on the far right and I have categorized a few to help readers find news they are looking for. These news links will update throughout the day as the news comes in, so we are always getting news, hence the slogan of our new blog, “Hunting News. All The Time.”

Not only will we be getting news updates throughout the day but I will be searching out news on the web that I think is important and will construct my own articles. You will see video, podcasts, articles, and links to other online resources. So thanks for stopping in and any comments on the new blog is appreciated. I haven’t found a place for a blogroll quite yet but when the time comes let me know if you are reading and I can add you to it.

Again, welcome to Hunting News Daily.
