When I started this blog I had a vision of what I wanted it to be. I started off writing several times a week and always had plenty of material to write about. Then I started finding and reading other blogs that were similar to mine. I found many really good blogs. I got to thinking that mine looked like a copy of this one or that one. I started wondering if someone had already written a blog post about what ever subject I was thinking about writing. I wondered if my post would add any information to the subject that the other blogs about my subject did not have. After a while I just got blocked and could not seem to write anything.

I have also been keeping busy writing for Clique Clack food I have been writing a weekly Redneck cooking post for over a year now and I have less trouble coming up with posts because AI just write about the things I am cooking or the tools I am cooking with.

I have also been working a lot with Talk Hunting. This web site is a great place where people who enjoy the out doors all get together to talk about the things the enjoy. The forums are family friendly and kids are encouraged to participate. The moderators do a good job of keeping out unwanted content and the membership is growing quickly. Talk hunting also has a monthly online magazine that i regularly contribute to called the Camp Fire News.

Between that and the day to day oddities that make up the rest of my life I have not had a lot of time to write. I am working now on refinding my focus and my direction for this blog. I will no longer worry about other blogs that may have already or are going to soon write about my subject because the one thing that will set my post apart from theres will be that it is written from my perspective on the subject.

For the last year I have read many posts from blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and other venues about how we need to clean house and vote all of the corrupt bums out of office in the federal government. I agree that it is way past time to clean the slate and start over. The problem I have is that no one is talking about who to replace the bums with. I have looked at the candidates that are running for office in my voting district and I do not see anyone currently running that I believe would be a better choice than the ones already in office. Who should I vote for? Do I continue to pick the candiddate that I feel is the lesser of two evils? I will not vote for the lesser of two evils again. It is time that we all stand up and demand that any candidate for any public office tell us what they believe, and stand for. When we find that candidate that we agree with we should do all we can to support that candidate and help them to get elected. Once they are in office we must then keep a watchful eye on what they are doing while in office. Are they doing everything they told us they would do? Are they now doing exactly the opposite? We must hold them accountable for their every action. If they fail to live up to their promises then vote them out and let someone else have the job. Until this happens we will continue to get the corrupt representation we are now so vehemently outraged at.

As I sit here watching the sun rise on a dreary, rainy day here in Washington on this last day of 2009 I am thinking about the year that has passed. Overall I would say that 2009 was a pretty good year. There were some highs and some lows throughout the year, but for the most part it was a good year.

I am really looking forward to 2010. I have a number of changes in my life that I am going to be working very hard to make happen this year. I plan to spend more time writing to my blog and I am going to concentrate more on my photography. I am not sure yet on a few things that I want to see change, but when I have better details and some idea of the direction those changes will take I will write about them also.

Yesterday was Christmas eve and we spent the day with our family. It was a pretty good day and we had a good time talking about what is going on and what is coming up. As I sit here this morning drinking coffee and watching the sun rise over the frosty field I am thinking a lot about the year that has just passed and the the year to come. There are so many things I had planned to do last year and as I look back at those plans and what ones are still left undone with just a few days left in the year I am boggled by the question “Where did all the time go?” I don’t think the plans I had for last year were so much that I couldn’t get them dione, and yet I aqm out of time and still have many things left to do. I, like so many of us, have gotten so caught up in the rat race that is our modern life that I have forgotten how to take the time to get back to what is truly important. I spend so much time working and stressing about the political climate, the economy, the all out destruction of everything our founding fathers shed their precious blood to create by the current administration that I forget to take the time to take care of myself.

Some of the things on my list I wanted to accomplish for last year were.

Spend more time fishing: I went fishing maybe 12 times over the spring, and summer. This is not near enough. I spent many weekends sitting at home on the computer that I should have spent fishing.

Take more photographs: I did get out some to take photos, but I have not yet gone out and shot the “My town” documentary phiotos I have been planning for the last year.

Spend more time in the woods: Living where I do in Idaho it is a 20 to 60 minute drive to the mountains depending on where I want to go. I have used the drive time as an excuse too often. Yes gas is expensive and it takes a bit of it to get there, but what is your mental health worth? I am always so much more relaxed and in much better spirits after spending a few ours in the mountains away from the hustle and bustle of the world below and yet I can never seem to get myself to go.

RELAX: The stress from thing going on around me that I have no control over has gotten me wound tighter than Nancy Pelosi’s panties at a gun show and I have forgotten how to relax. I used to not let the things I could not control bother me but lately they have grabbed hold and not let go.

As I look back at these things I can feel the tension rising up my back like some scifi creature crawling up my spine to take control of my brain again. Enough with looking back. I can not change what has already happened so it is time to look forward to 2010.

For the coming year I am going to keep things really simple. I am going to focus on my blogging and photography. I will no longer drive past that beautiful cloud formation or sun rise, or scenic view of a valley thinking what a great picture it would make. I am going to take the time to stop and take the picture. I am going to spend more time reading some of the great photography blogs and trying to improve my abilities.

I have much to be thankful for this holiday season and I want to say to all of my family and friends, “Thank you for being in my life. Thank you for all you have done for me. Thank you for making me a better person. Without you I do not know who I would be but I would not be the man I am today”

I love history and looking at old pictures from the past. I have scanned a number of pictures my Grandfather took and sent home while he was in the service. Grandpa was stationed in Japan after WWII ended. I wish I had gotten the chance to hear his stories for these pictures, but do to a massive stroke that he suffered when I was very young by the time I was old enough to understand the stories he was not able to speak because his voice box had been paralized by the stroke. He lived a long and productive life even after the stroke. He taught me many valuable lesson growing up that did not require words to get the message across.

I have been using twitter for a few years now. I started using twitter not long after it went public and myself and a few friends have used it to keep in touch ever since. Twitter has become quite popular of late and that has improved the usefulness of the tool. I can get notices of breaking news, traffic congestion, pass conditions, great recipes, and see what is on the television at just about any given time of the day or the night. There are also a lot of people that, like me, use twitter as a forum to vent what ever is on our minds. You can find people with an opinion on any subject on twitter and you will find opinions on all sides of the debate on that subject as well. I like that I can find different views on all subjects, but I am getting tired of the posters that instead of posting useful information and possible alternative actions on the subject, they instead spend all of their time ridiculing and insulting everyone that disagrees with their view of the subject. I know that we all are entitled to have an opinion on any subject, and I have my opinions on most subjects that I am not afraid to share, but I do not believe that it is acceptable to insult those that disagree with me because they disagree. I have had enough of the insults and name calling. Over the next week or so I am going to look closely at what is being posted to twitter. If all someone is posting is insults then they are off my follow list, and anyone that disagrees can remove me from their follow list as well.
