*Editor’s Note* Below is an email being sent to NRA members asking them to sign a petition seeking the firing of Attorney General Eric Holder for his handling of gun issues involved at the U.S. and Mexico borders. The information provided in this email may or may not reflect the views of this author and/or anyone associated with this website.

Dear [NRA Member],

I’ve just returned from the border between the United States and Mexico and I’ve never witnessed anything like the stinking, rotten level of murder, corruption, cover-up, and conspiracy confronting us today.

This conspiracy ignited two years ago when U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder claimed that your Second Amendment rights are to blame for the drug crimes and killings in Mexico.

Holder and other top-level Obama Administration figures — even the President himself — claimed that 90% of the guns used by violent drug cartels were coming from American gun dealers.

In short, they blamed our Second Amendment rights for the violence of the Mexican drug cartels.

But leaked U.S. State Department cables have exposed this as a bald-faced LIE.

These Obama Administration cables proved beyond a shadow of a doubt what the Mexican government already knew: That the drug cartels were getting guns — along with fully-automatic weapons, grenade launchers, anti-personnel mines and other military hardware — through Central America, NOT THE U.S.

While these leaked cables exposed the lies propping up Obama’s gun control agenda, administration officials at the highest levels pushed a strategy to fit their gun control aims.

In a display of corruption and arrogance that’s shocking even for this Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) launched Operation “Fast and Furious” — an illegal pipeline for shipping guns into Mexico.

With our government’s full knowledge and complicity, BATFE higher-ups ordered firearms dealers to sell these guns illegally to straw purchasers. And it wasn’t just a few guns… It was over two thousand!!!

At the time, BATFE agents protested the insanity of Operation Fast and Furious, and the sheer stupidity of letting thousands of illegally purchased guns just walk over the border into the hands of criminals.

But BATFE supervisors pushed back saying, “if you want to make an omelet, you have to break some eggs.”

One of those “eggs” broke on the night of December 14, 2010.

That night, 40-year old Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was in a remote Arizona canyon with a six-member tactical team that encountered a group of armed Mexican illegals.

Sources said that the “illegal entrants” were in Arizona to rob cartel drug mules and other illegals. In the initial skirmish, the Border Patrol agents fired low-velocity shotgun beanbag rounds and were met with 7.62x39mm return fire.

Officer Terry died in the exchange. And when the bandits fled, they left behind two AK-style rifles that were traced to sales made under the Fast and Furious operation.

Senator Charles Grassley (IA) and Representative Darrell Issa (CA) are defending our Second Amendment rights and fighting for justice for Agent Terry by holding Congressional hearings on Fast and Furious.

But they’re being stonewalled by Obama, Holder and others who are bent on sweeping the truth under the rug.

They are withholding government documents that say exactly who ordered the operations. Government e-mails warn witnesses not to cooperate. Congressional subpoenas are being ignored.

If you want to help NRA protect our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, our freedoms and our country from corrupt government officials, then I need you to take action today.

That’s why I’m counting on you to sign NRA’s National Petition to Fire Eric Holder. It will only take a moment, but your signature on this petition is absolutely critical. You can sign the petition by clicking here now.

When Attorney General Holder was questioned by Senator Charles Grassley about how guns that were allowed to “walk” out of gun shops during Operation Fast and Furious ended up at a U.S. Border Patrol Agent’s murder scene, Holder said, “I frankly don’t know.”

That one statement from our nation’s top law-enforcement official cuts right to the heart of the matter and proves that Holder is either covering up for Obama, his failed gun control schemes, and the crimes committed, or he’s incompetent.

Either way, he can’t be trusted with the powers of Attorney General, the law enforcement agencies he commands, the sanctity of the Second Amendment, or the lives of Federal agents.

That’s why NRA is launching a nationwide campaign to gather hundreds of thousands of signatures on this Petition to Fire Eric Holder, one of Obama’s chief architects for his gun ban agenda.

We must act now because the Obama Administration and Holder have crossed the line.

If the Obama Administration is willing to endanger Americans by attacking our Second Amendment liberties, there’s no limit to their arrogance and willingness to abuse power to achieve political gain, and they must be stopped.

Thank you for doing your part by signing NRA’s petition. As always, thank you for your friendship, your support and your words of encouragement. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Yours in Liberty,
Wayne LaPierre

If you will recall, yesterday I rebutted the explanation given to Montana residents by Governor Brian Schweitzer as to why he vetoed HB 271, a bill that would have allowed concealed carry without a permit within city limits (it is presently allowed outside city limits).

Gary Marbut, President of the Montana Shooting Sports Association, takes his turn at correcting several factual errors by the Governor.

~~~~~
Dear Editor,
Governor’s Schweitzer’s veto message for HB 271 is factually incorrect on several important counts. These obvious inaccuracies do not commend the Governor for his knowledge, or for his choice of advisers on this issue.
HB 271 would have allowed concealed firearm carry (“permitless carry”) inside city limits in Montana, as has been the case outside city limits (99.4% of Montana) for two decades without any identifiable incidence of problems.
Schweitzer claimed that HB 271 would have adversely impacted officers of the Montana Highway Patrol and county sheriffs departments, yet these agencies operate primarily outside cities where permitless carry has been the uneventful norm for 20 years.
The Governor also claims that HB 271 would void the existing concealed weapon permit process. Wrong again. A plain reading of HB 271 shows that it does not touch upon the existing permit process, which leaves permits entirely in place for those wishing permits for out-of-state travel or instant gun buys.
It’s obvious that the Governor didn’t even read HB 271 before doing a quick draw with his staged branding iron and completely missing the target. Having been urged by both the NRA and MSSA to support HB 271, the Governor now wears a self-inflicted veto brand on his political foot from his quick-draw miss, yet another case of ready, fire, aim.
Not that it is unusual for those aimed at tearing down our constitutional rights to implement laws that do that very thing. And, it’s not that unusual these days when you have a governmental official who claims to be a pro gun person, deny the citizens their right to bear arms. It’s the ignorance that drives those decisions that is inexcusable in my opinion.
Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer vetoed HB 271, a bill that would have allowed Montana citizens to carry concealed weapons without a permit within city limits. It is my understanding, that Montanans are granted permission to practice this kind of carry outside the city limits. So what makes urban dwellers such second rate citizens?
Consider also that the bill passed the House 68-29 and the Senate 30-20. Schweitzer vetoed the bill.
I’m not here to debate whether the bill was a good bill or a bad bill, that’s up to the citizens of Montana but according to Gov. Schweitzer’s statement on his veto, I’m not so sure he considers the people in his decision making at all. Nor am I convinced he even understands the U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights.
Schweitzer claims that the passage of HB271 would allow anyone eligible to possess a handgun in Montana to carry it concealed without a permit, which is the intent of the bill passed. But read the Governor’s reasoning behind this.
This allows the individual to make his or her own eligibility determination and deprives law enforcement of the opportunity to consider whether the person is a threat to the community.
I’m not sure I found in the Second Amendment the part that says the local police department will decide whether I can possess a gun. However, I do acknowledge that state and federal laws make certain determinations for eligibility purposes and those laws should be adequate. Further restrictions on gun ownership will do nothing to prevent a determined person from breaking the law. I find it very disturbing that any government official believes they are better able to make decisions for the people than the people themselves. Does the Governor actually believe it is up to the police department to determine who is a threat as it pertains to gun possession? Isn’t there due process to consider here?
If the Governor is asserting that police will no longer be able to make a determination of a threat in a crowd of people because a lawful citizen is carrying concealed without a permit, how is that determination made now with people carrying concealed with a permit? Surely, according to the Governor’s method of reasoning, his police department cannot make such a determination of a threat now. Time to find trained officers who can I would guess.
He further states:
HB 271 would entirely remove the Sheriff’s authority and discretion to issue or deny concealed weapons permits.
Is the issuing or denying of a concealed weapons permit in Montana left up to the “discretion” of the Sheriff? Either the person applying for a permit meets the requirements or they don’t and in my opinion a bill that would remove that police “discretion” from our guaranteed Second Amendment rights, the better.
The Governor’s closing paragraph is about as ignorant a statement as I have read from a person in such a high level of government service.
Finally, I would like the sponsors of this bill to consider the absurdity of the standard set forth in HB 271. If this standard were applied to the issuance of other permits and licenses in our society, then nobody could be prosecuted for failure to produce a driver’s license, a commercial driver’s license, a pilot’s license, a building permit, a hunting license, or any other type of permit. These documents would not be necessary. People would simply have to produce evidence that they were “eligible” to possess them.
I think the governor needs to consider the absurdity of his statement in regards to this bill. Once again making sure I didn’t miss something in the hundreds of times I read over the Bill of Rights, I still fail to find where driving a car or truck, flying a plane, building a house, hunting, etc. is guaranteed to us in the Constitution. Schweitzer states, “These documents [licenses] would not be necessary.” Amen to that!
Mr. Governor – There is a distinct difference between the consideration of laws restricting liberties recognized in the United States Constitution as guaranteed and those we consider privileges. To make the above statement shows us that you fail miserably in understanding that concept. And I ask you, Governor, how many of our other Bill of Rights do we require people obtain a permit in order to enjoy only parts thereof?
At least if you are going to veto a bill, make a better attempt at explaining it with the use of citing legal precedent, while at the same time recognizing the wishes of the people of Montana over those people and organizations that you control. Is Montana now a police state?
Tom Remington
Many states in America have been down this road before. Someone wants a list of all the names and addresses of citizens who own/register guns and/or have a concealed weapon permit. An Associated Press reporter solicited the names and addresses of Illinois registered gun owners through Freedom of Information Access law. This person is being temporarily denied that list.
While most discuss whether this is a safety issue and invasion of privacy, nobody is talking about why the people of Illinois should have to register their guns in the first place.
President Obama is asked by a reporter from Mexico (I believe) why he doesn’t just veto the Second Amendment. Obama attempts to explain about how he is bound by the Constitution. This must be a very difficult task for him as we know he supports limiting Second Amendment rights and has spoken publicly that he doesn’t think the Founding Fathers got the Constitution right by limiting the power of the Federal Government over the people.
Without his scripted speeches and teleprompters, we know he struggles with words, as well as drags and stammers along, but it’s difficult to see in the man any enthusiasm for explaining how the Constitution, rights and the separation of powers all come together to form the greatest nation on earth.
I suppose he could have taken this opportunity to tell the people of Mexico he was going to go back to the Congress and convince them to ratify the United Nations arms treaty he has sworn allegiance to.
Keep your eye on the ball under one of the clam shells. Soon enough, they will be shuffled.
Zogby actually found 10,000 voters not so consumed with what Charlie Sheen is going to say next, to ask them about gun control laws. 75% of all voters polled believe current gun restrictions are adequate or too harsh……..whatever the heck that means. Don’t you love polls.
At a time when Americans should be arming themselves to the teeth, stimulated by a hair-brained president who’s only motive seems to be dictatorial control, all the president’s men appear to be hinting that Obama will soon introduce stricter gun control laws.
If the president decides to do that, it will bring another round of buying and hoarding ammunition. So, you better be getting it while you can.
